In 2026, the Veekraal Owners Association (VOA) embarked on a new direction to set the community on a path of long term stability. Part of the new direction included that the VOA initiated the registration as a Non-Profit Company (NPC). This step was planned to be an interim step towards eventually being transformed into a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) – (which requires the NPC as a prerequisite step first).

One may wonder about the reasons for this course of action, since the VOA has indeed existed for more than a decade without the necessity for this type of registration. The reason for this new initiative is relatively uncomplicated. Up to now, all funds that was available to the VOA for improving conditions of those living within the Veekraal community, had to be collected solely from the contributions within Veekraal. And although internal contributions would remain one of the main sources of funding, it is clear that external funding could meaningfully supplement the income and enable the VOA to make an even larger impact to enhance the conditions for Veekraal residents.

In the South African framework of legislation, non-profit organisations are allowed to receive funds from external entities (companies, private individuals, etc.), and by doing so, legally receive tax relief in terms of their tax obligations to the Receiver of Revenue (SARS). This possibility of additional funding is obviously something that the VOA believes to hold much promise to further enriching the living conditions of those residing in Veekraal – but for that to become a reality, formal registration is firstly required.

At present the initial steps towards registration have already been taken and the VOA believes that full registration is likely to be completed before the end of 2026 – after which external parties will be approached to contribute for the benefit of Veekraal as a whole. As this exciting new chapter in the history of Veekraal is unfolding, we will keep the community informed of developments in this space.
